Description

Lightmoor Furnaces are the remains of early blast furnaces built in the 1750s. Some curved brick walling is visible, although the area is much broken up. Originally, it was described as having a semi-circular headed opening into the hillside with iron supporting ribs. This opening likely served as the adit to a coalmine, which has since been removed, though it may still be intact underground. Proper identification would require excavation of the area.
