Description
Taranymwrthwl Farm is a 2-storey house with an attic, facing east. It features a lower wing, which was originally a storeyed porch, offset to the right, and a lower cow house attached to the right gable end. The house is constructed of whitewashed rubble stone and has a concrete tile roof with end stacks. The wing has a slate roof, while the former cow house has a corrugated iron roof.
The wing includes horned sash windows with brick surrounds in its gable end and a casement window in the attic. On the right side, there are external stone steps leading to a blocked doorway on the first floor. To the left of the wing, the house has hornless sash windows in each storey, with 16 panes in the lower storey and 12 panes in the upper storey. Adjacent to the left gable end is a modern lean-to that is set back from the angle and contains the main doorway to the house.
The cow house retains a single vent strip in the upper left and two first-floor windows with segmental heads that were inserted in the late 19th century. The lower storey has a central inserted doorway with a window to its left and added concrete steps to the right, beneath which is another doorway. The north gable end features an added lean-to with a doorway under a lintel and a vent strip above.
Although not inspected during the survey, it is reported by RCAHM Wales that the interior retains a gable end fireplace with a brick oven, flanked by a turning stone stair leading to the first floor. A second turning stair can be accessed through a doorway with a stop-chamfered surround, leading to the attic. The roof is said to have curved-foot principals and lapped collar beams.
