Description
Gwaelodygarth House is a building designed in a simple classical style, featuring a symmetrical exterior. It dates from the 18th century and has a two-storey front with three windows and a pedimental frontispiece, which includes a heraldic cockerel in the gable panel. The building is faced with thin Bath stone that has been painted, showcasing channelled rustication and plain bands above the ground and first-floor windows, along with a plinth band. The upper-level windows retain some Tudor dripmoulds, while the ground-floor windows are adorned with cornices on scrolled volutes.
There is a large architraved doorway beneath a cornice in the setback range to the right, and a second doorway beneath a modern porch in the setback range to the left. At the time of inspection, the building was gutted and roofless, with the upper floor of the left-hand range having collapsed. Modern brick chimneys are present, and earlier roughcast brickwork is visible behind the Bath stone facings. Some panelled window splays remain, although the small-pane sash windows have been removed.
