Description

The gate piers at the former railway crossing are notable structures from the 19th century. The left-hand gate post features a complex design made of both cast iron and wood. It includes a tapered cast iron column stamped with "GWR T47," topped with a finial and spurs that connect to a thin square pole. This pole is hinged to a large timber post, which is thickened at the top and has an inverted spandrel stamped "T116." Between this spandrel and the arm that once held the gate, there is a quatrefoil ornament. The plain square iron pier on the right likely served as a locking post for a pedestrian gate and is capped with a pyramidal top.
