Description
Pantyquesta House is a Tudor-style country house dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rock-faced stone with a slate roof, partly renewed, hipped to the right and half-hipped to the left. A tall brick stack remains on the front left. The house has two main storeys plus an attic. The mullioned windows originally had leaded lights and sashes, though some have been replaced with modern materials. The front of the house faces a drive on the north side.
The entrance is emphasized by a gabled, two-bay projection situated slightly left of centre. The doorway is located on the right side of this projection, sheltered by a shallow segmental arch, and is accompanied by a three-light window to its left. This window has a linked hood mould decorated with mythical beasts at the stops. The porch created by the projection contains a half-lit door with Tudor-arched panels, flanked by similar panels and an overlight. Above the entrance is a three-light window on the right side and a large three-light window with two transoms, which illuminates the stairwell to the left. An attic window is also present. To the left of the entrance projection, a single bay features a one-light window on the lower level and a gabled roof dormer with a two-light casement. The right side of the entrance front is less regular, with single and two-light windows. The east elevation includes two two-light windows on the lower level, and a two-light window upper right and a single-light window upper centre.
On the south garden front are projecting, two-storey castellated towers at each end. These towers have three-light windows facing forward, two-light upper-storey windows on the west side of both towers, and doorways on the inward-facing sides. These doorways have half-lit entrances on the right and replaced entrances on the left. Between the towers are two bays of unequal width. The wider, gabled bay on the right has a four-light mullioned and transomed window on the lower level, with a two-light window above and a window to light the attic. The left-hand bay contains a four-light lower-storey window and a pair of single-light windows above. An Art Nouveau style veranda, with three cast iron columns and a replaced glazed roof, has been inserted in the space between the towers.
The west end continues with a lower two-storey bay housing service accommodation. Beyond this is a courtyard enclosed by single-storey stables, a coach house, and workshops, maintaining original boarded doors with large strap hinges. Adjacent to the house, along the east side of the courtyard, is a single-storey range now converted into a garage. A gateway on the north side provides access to the courtyard.
Inside, the stair hall contains an open-well stair with pierced Gothic panels between the balusters. The drawing room, located on the southwest side, features a neo-classical plaster ceiling with oval panels.
