Description
The Former Smithy at Treforest Tinplate Works is a Grade II* listed building. The exterior is covered with asbestos sheets over low brick walls, featuring double doors on the north gable end. The gabled roof is made of asbestos-cement sheets. Hidden beneath the cladding is the original cast iron frame, which consists of four bays in length and one bay in width. This frame includes cast iron uprights supported by segmental arched braces, which have open circles in the spandrels, a design characteristic of the Cyfarthfa Iron Company style.
Inside, the space is divided by a blockwork cross wall. Each of the four bays contains three timber queen-post trusses.
