Description

Lloyds TSB Bank, Market Square branch, is a free classical-style building that stands three storeys high with an attic. It is constructed on a steel frame with rendered walls that are scribed and painted white, featuring rusticated detailing on the lower storey. The roof is made of slate and includes an end brick stack on the Market Street side, while the Church Street side has added skylights. The windows are plate-glass sashes, and there are moulded string courses separating the storeys, along with a continuous modern fascia between the ground and middle storeys.

The shorter south elevation faces Market Street and has three linked architrave windows with fluted pilasters and bracketed sills on the lower storey. The upper storeys are arranged in two bays, with tripartite windows in eared architraves on the middle storey and similar windows under elliptical heads with linked hood moulds on the upper storey. There are two gabled dormers featuring round-headed windows with hood moulds and prominent keystones. The main entrance is located at a splayed angle on the right side facing Market Street, featuring a round-headed doorway with fluted and panelled pilasters and a keyed arch. The entrance includes a glazed panel door with a glazed panel surround and overlight. The middle, upper, and dormer windows mirror those on the Market Street elevation.

The longer elevation facing Church Street has windows that share similar details to those on the Market Street side, arranged in groups of five, two, and two on the middle and upper storeys. In the lower storey, there are four windows from the left end, followed by a recessed doorway with a replaced door. Above this doorway are tripartite windows in the middle and upper storeys. Further to the right in the lower storey are two groups of narrow triple windows, and at the right end, there are double panelled doors beneath a plain overlight.
