Description
The Monument to David Evans is a tall marble structure in gothic style, set on a square stone base that was once surrounded by a marble arcaded kerb, now partly dismantled. It features a red marble plinth that supports a four-sided inscription section, which is angled at 45 degrees. Each panel is enclosed within a steeply gabled canopy, with half-round piers that have stiffleaf capitals supporting a trefoil-headed arch. The inscription, made of metal lettering, honors David Evans, with a second shorter inscription dedicated to his wife Mary, who died in 1892 at the age of 58; the other panels remain blank. Above the plinth is a full-sized figure of the deceased, depicted in contemporary clothing, holding a scroll with one arm resting on a supporting pillar, and gazing towards the Rhondda valley.
