Description
The University of Wales Registry is a classical-style building constructed from Portland Stone, featuring small-pane glazing and sash windows on the main floor. It is a single storey structure with a basement and attic. The central entrance block is recessed and flanked by coupled Ionic columns topped with a segmental pediment, with one window on either side and decorative cartouches at the attic level. Each side of the central block has a wing consisting of three bays, which include rectangular windows with moulded architraves. Above the cornice, the attic features bull's eye windows. The basement is characterized by horizontal rustication and segmental-headed windows, with a flight of steps leading to the central entrance. The returns of the building have three windows each.
At the rear, there is a two-storey extension made of rock-faced Pennant stone, which has three bays of three windows with 12-pane sash glazing, along with Portland stone architraves, cornices, and pilasters. In front of the entrance, the forecourt is adorned with three small stone obelisks on ashlar plinths at each end. Additionally, there is a row of ten iron posts with dragon finials, designed by Goscombe John, at the front of the forecourt.
Inside, the rear of the entrance hall has been opened up with two Doric columns, and a corridor curves around a U-shaped courtyard. The courtyard elevations are formed by the walls of the extension, which includes a niche in the end wall and steps leading down to the garden.
