Description
17 Cathedral Road is a group of four terraced houses built in a quiet Gothic style. Constructed from thinly coursed rough faced pennant sandstone, they feature Bath stone ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roofs, complemented by red brick ridge chimneys and ridge tiles. Each house stands three storeys tall and is two bays wide, consisting of a large and a small bay. The ground and first floors are adorned with polygonal 5-light bay windows that have shields on the aprons, topped by an arcaded parapet. Above, there is a triple sash window with stone mullions set in the gable. Each house has paired doorways framed by 3-centred arches in ashlar, with a window above these on each floor; the top floor window rises into a shared half-dormer with a slate roof. All windows are plate glass sashes. The rear elevation has not been seen, and the interior details were not available at the time of resurvey.
