Description

Yr-hen-dy is a double-fronted central-entrance house, likely dating to the 16th century, although significantly altered. The exterior is rendered over local rubble, with a mansard roof covered in Welsh slate. The main facade has three bays, with a central doorway featuring panelled pilasters, a flat hood supported by arched brackets, a six-panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight above. Flanking the doorway are square bay windows with stucco cornices and parapets. These bays are additions from the mid-19th century and feature sash windows with horns; the ground floor windows lack glazing bars, while the first floor windows have a mix of 6 over 6, 3 over 6, and 6 over 3 panes. Three pedimented dormers with casement windows (6 + 6 panes) light the attic space. Gable stacks are present. The left return elevation has two windows on each floor, featuring 6 over 6 sash windows. Behind the original house is an additional gabled range, followed by a three-storey wing and later 20th-century double-gabled extensions incorporating contemporary joinery. According to a historical account by Newman, a 16th-century south doorway with a four-centred head and a two-light window above were once present, but these were not visible during a resurvey in April 2002. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey.
