Description
114 Cathedral Road comprises a pair of semi-detached houses built in the late 19th century, exhibiting elements of the Old English Revival and Norman Shaw styles. The houses are similar in design to the neighbouring properties at numbers 110 and 112, though with distinct detailing. Constructed of red brick with Portland stone ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roofs, they feature red brick chimneys and ridge tiles. Each house is three storeys high and two bays wide, with a large bay and a small bay, and paired entrances centrally located. The ground and first floors feature canted five-light bay windows with plate glass, accentuated by rusticated sandstone aprons. The gabled top floor is jettied, supported by carved timber brackets, and is distinguished by a four-light canted timber mullioned oriel window with a two-tier tile-hung face. Plain bargeboards and a large chimney stack are present on the side elevation. Brick porches with stone facing contain arched doorways, topped with a keyed roundel and a parapet. A window sits above each porch, while a coved cornice and a dormer with a slate roof and finial complete the facade. Stone banding and small windows characterise the side elevation. The rear elevation has not been inspected. The interior of the houses was not accessible for inspection.
