Description
Lloyds Chemist is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring a gable end facing the street. It has roughcast cladding and long and short stuccoed quoins, along with the stump of a finial. The slate gabled roof has a large stone stack on the ridge towards the rear of the front wing and a tall stone stack on the left side.
On the ground floor, there is a wide modern shop front on the right. To the left, a doorway has a curved ogee hood made of moulded wood supported by scroll brackets, with floral decoration in relief. The modern 20th-century panelled door is in use, while a 19th-century panelled door is stored in the rear passage.
The first floor features a canted three-light bay window with sash lights that have glazing bars, and a semi-circular sash window with glazing bars, an architrave, and a keystone on the second floor.
Inside, there is a massive ceiling beam in the front ground floor room. A wide staircase rises within the thickness of the stone internal partition wall. The original staircase between the ground and first floors is not in use, and a modern staircase has been added on the northwest side of the house, replacing the fireplace in the first-floor front room. The first-floor front room has panelled shutters for the bay window, and part of the ceiling cornice remains, featuring modillions and a 19th-century frieze. There is a wide doorway with panelled reveals between the front and rear first-floor rooms, with reeded newels remaining from the staircase to the ground floor.
