Description

Corntown Farmhouse is a 17th century farmhouse, largely constructed of stone, with lime rendering. It has a Welsh slate roof, hipped to the right, with yellow brick stacks positioned at the end to the left, along the centre ridge, and towards the right. The roof features coping to the cross gable. The building’s layout is a single depth long range, with a central gabled porch and a projecting cross wing to the right.

The main part of the building has five windows. The first floor has five windows featuring 2/2 horned sashes, shallow stone sills, and one 6-pane casement to the left. The ground floor has four cambered-headed windows with 8/8 pane horned sashes and stone sills, and a 4-pane casement to the left. The central porch has exposed quoins and a replaced door. The gabled cross wing is battered to its front and has two heavy stone buttresses on the right side. A disused doorway is set into the gable end, and at first floor level, a small trefoil-headed light with a hood is visible, with leaf moulding in the spandrels. A small light is also present on the left return. The rear of the building has four 4/4 pane horned sash windows; remnants of a former timber wallplate are visible. The farmhouse is surrounded by a stone wall, enclosing a small former farmyard to the right, which includes a barn, cartshed, stable, and pigsty.

The original single-depth plan has been retained. Inside, a fireplace with a segmental pointed arched voussoir construction is present, alongside a wooden window seat. The older cross wing features deep embrasures, a deep stone lintel over the doorway, lightly chamfered beams, and a stone recess.
