Description

Brynffrwd is a Victorian classical house that stands out from the nearby Gothic Revival Lodge. The building features a rendered, scored, and painted front, with pebble-dashed sides and a Welsh slate roof, complete with end stacks and decorative barge boards. It has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with three bays and two matching frontages. This design is said to have emerged from a disagreement about the house's orientation, as the original drive served both sides.

The symmetrical frontages showcase three 6/6 pane sash windows on the first floor, set in reveals with sills and heavy bracketed square hoodmoulds. The ground floor mirrors this with similar windows and a central doorway framed by pilaster strips and a simple moulded pediment. The entrance features a nine-panel door with a rectangular overlight that has patterned glazing bars, along with quoin strips and string and plinth courses. To the right, there is a small flagged service courtyard with limewashed stone service wings facing each other, each equipped with boarded doors and 8/8 pane sash windows in reveals.

On the Waterton Road side, the front garden is separated from the drive by a low wall with ashlar piers, iron gates, and railings. Inside, there is a clear distinction between the polite and service quarters. The polite area is located on the left of the central passage that connects the two doors, while the service quarters on the right include a kitchen, a servants' room, a china room, and formerly a separate staircase. Most rooms retain their wooden furnishings, including shutters, although the fireplaces have been removed. The hall features a staircase in the Victorian classical style.
