Description
The bridge over the Tennant Canal is a canal bridge featuring a segmental arch constructed with stone voussoirs and a high parapet. The towpath, which includes retaining walls, rises to and descends from the former turnpike road that crossed the River Neath at this location. To the south of the canal, there is a passage through the river bridge, and alongside the River Neath runs a retaining wall made of coursed rubble stone. Just below where the canal towpath begins to rise to the bridge, there are three conjoined semi-elliptical arches that serve as overflow channels. Further south, within the same retaining wall, there is a segmental sluice arch that features wooden sluice machinery on the west side of the towpath.
