Description

Great Western Chambers is a building from the early to mid-19th century. It has three stories and features a three-window front, with a whitewashed roughcast exterior and a plaster plinth. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there are boarded eaves with brick stacks at each end.

The second-floor windows have shallow upper sashes with 12 panes, plain reveals, and stone sills that form a continuous sillband. The first-floor windows have eight small panes in the upper sash, with the lower sashes lacking glazing bars, and they also feature a continuous sillband. In the center of the building, there is a late 19th-century canted oriel window with a fishscale slate roof, cambered heads on the sash windows, and an ogee bracket. The ground floor windows are larger but maintain a similar style to those on the first floor.

The entrance features a central round-arched recessed doorway with a classical doorcase, which includes a dentilled open pediment, torus moulded pilasters, and fluted capitals. The door is panelled and topped with a segmental fanlight.

To the east, there is a symmetric two-window elevation that mirrors the front's fenestration, although the first-floor windows are offset to the left. A central doorway on the ground floor has been blocked. This elevation also has sill bands and a plinth.

On the west end elevation, there are two two-light casement windows on the first floor. The rear of the building has modern fenestration on the second floor, while the first floor features a 12-pane sash window and a 30-pane sash window in the stairwell. The ground floor includes a 12-pane sash window, along with other modern cut doors and windows.
