Description

These are a row of twelve terraced houses, built in 1883 for colliery workers at nearby pits owned by the Glyncorrwg Coal Mining Company. The single-storey design is distinctive and represents a late example of this type of housing. The houses were originally arranged with four rooms, including a lean-to pantry at the rear, and only two of the rooms had heating. Initially, the residents shared a communal bakehouse, though this was demolished by 1904.

The twelve houses are arranged in two rows of six, placed end to end but slightly angled. They are constructed of rubble-stone walls which have been rendered. The roofs have been replaced, and most of the original brick chimney stacks remain, some of which are also rendered. The windows and doors are replacements, but are generally in the original openings. The houses are of group value.
