5 Gelli Houses

5 Gelli Houses were built in 1883 for coal miners working at nearby pits owned by the Glyncorrwg Coal Mining Company. This single-storey construction is notable for being one of the last examples of its type. Each house has four rooms and a lean-to pantry at the back, with only two of the rooms originally heated. The houses initially shared a communal bakehouse, which had been demolished by 1904.

The Gelli Houses consist of two rows of six double-fronted houses arranged end-to-end but not quite parallel. The walls, made of rubble stone, are now rendered, and the roofs have been renewed. Most of the brick chimneys remain, with some also rendered. The windows and doors have been replaced, but they mostly fit within the original openings.
