Description
The Clydach Brook aqueduct, built in 1849, is a cast iron structure that spans the former Vale of Neath Railway. It features six main 'fish-bellied' beams, with the outer two being I-section and the inner four having an inverted T-section with a bulbed compression flange. Floor-plates are supported by each pair of beams. The sides of the aqueduct are panelled and bear the inscription 'George Hennet Bridgewater Ironworks A.D. 1849' on the northeast side. The aqueduct is supported by rusticated Pennant sandstone abutments, each adorned with three blind arches that are recessed into the face. Additionally, the downstream bed of the aqueduct includes a ramp made of squared Pennant sandstone blocks.
