Description

The former forge and rolling mill at Neath Abbey Ironworks is a building constructed with Pennant sandstone walls, featuring 20th-century painted roughcast render, and has dressings of Pennant sandstone ashlar with a slate roof. The southwest side elevation originally had an open arcade consisting of five semicircular arches, alternating between smaller and larger arches, but these have since been blocked and rendered over, now containing 20th-century inserted windows within the arches. Above, there are two 20th-century windows, one situated under a low gable. The southeast gable end features three blocked circular openings with stone voussoirs above, alongside the outline of a doorway with a keystone dated 1825, and a window to the left.

Inside, there is said to be an inserted floor supported by cast-iron pillars. The iron roof trusses include cast-iron compression members (angled struts) and rafters, as well as wrought-iron tension members, which consist of iron rod ties and inverted-V rods extending from the ridge to the tie-rod.
