Description

Tyle House Farm is a large farmhouse dating from the 18th century, standing two storeys high with a front elevation featuring four windows, facing east towards the road. To the left, there is a partly collapsed lofted farm range that runs alongside the house. The building is constructed from local stone, which has been whitened, and it has a slate roof with a tile ridge. There is a large kitchen chimney on the left side, along with ordinary stone chimneys at the mid and right ends. The left gable is rendered and includes a small attic window. The rear span of the main range is partially covered with artificial slates.

The front windows are arranged in a notably irregular pattern. The four windows on the left side of the front elevation, which is the original part of the house with a later upper storey, are all replaced 12-pane horned-sash windows. The frame of the larger upstairs window is exposed, while the others are set back. On the right side of the house, the upper windows feature 12 panes with original 18th-century hornless sashes, while the lower window is modern. Slate sills are present throughout, and there is a modern boarded door with a modern porch.

Inside, the farmhouse retains two significant features: the kitchen fireplace, which is located against the south gable wall and has an entrance to one side, preserving its timber bressummer and a small bread oven, as well as the adjacent winding stone outshut stairs. When inspected in 1999, the original end entrance doorway in the south gable wall was in the process of being reopened.
