Clock Tower & Administration Block to Former Swansea Hospital

The Clock Tower and Administration Block of the former Swansea Hospital is a surviving portion of the Swansea Infirmary. This three-storey symmetrical block features snecked rubble facings with freestone dressings and hipped tiled roofs that slope lower on the sides. The central platform roof is adorned with ironwork railings and supports a clock tower topped with a pyramidal spirelet and finials, flanked by tall chimneys.

Architectural details include a bracket cornice and a six-light arcade at the top floor windows, along with bandcourses. Below, there are three arched lights with an ironwork balcony that is cantilevered on brackets. The single window bays, which are tripartite on the top floor, are set back on the sides. At the time of inspection in spring 1986, all glazing had been removed. The central entrance features a pair of doors beneath a deep plain fanlight, accessed by a flight of steps. The building has four windows facing Phillips Parade, while the rear elevation has been rebuilt.
