Mercer Offices including Brunswick Health Centre & Douglas-Jones

The Mercer Offices, which include the Brunswick Health Centre and Douglas-Jones, are a terrace of mid-19th century classical houses originally arranged as two pairs plus one. The centre left block features a later five-light cantilevered Tudor bay above linking porches. The building is three stories high, plus an attic and basement, with stucco two-bay fronts connected by single-story porches. It has slate roofs, gabled dormers, and central panelled stacks. The eaves cornice and blocking course are present, along with plain pilasters above the main cornice and Corinthian pilasters below. The windows have architraves and cornices on volute brackets at the ground floor. There is a large later splayed bay that extends through all storeys at No. 148, and a two-storey splayed bay on the left side. Sash windows with small-pane glazing are featured throughout, except for Nos. 139, 140, and 147. The side porches are supported by Ionic columns in antis, with panelled doorcases beneath them and steps leading up. Long ranges extend to the rear.
