Mercer Offices, including Brunswick Health Centre & Douglas-Jones

The Mercer Offices, which include the Brunswick Health Centre and Douglas-Jones, are a terrace of classical houses built in the mid-19th century. Originally arranged as two pairs plus one, the center-left block features a later five-light cantilevered Tudor bay that connects the porches. The buildings are three stories tall, plus an attic and basement, with stucco facades that have two bays linked by single-story porches. They are topped with slate roofs, gabled dormers, and central panelled stacks. The eaves have a cornice and a blocking course, with plain pilasters above the main cornice and Corinthian pilasters below. The windows are adorned with architraves and cornices supported by volute brackets at the ground floor. Notably, there is a large later splayed bay that extends through all stories of No. 148, and a two-story splayed bay on the left side. The sash windows feature small-pane glazing, except for Nos. 139, 140, and 147. The side porches are flanked by Ionic columns in antis, with panelled doorcases underneath and steps leading up. The rear of the terrace has long ranges.
