Mercer Offices, including Brunswick Health Centre & Douglas-Jones

The Mercer Offices, which include the Brunswick Health Centre and Douglas-Jones, are a terrace of classical houses built in the mid 19th century. Originally, the terrace was arranged as two pairs plus one. The left block features a later 5-light cantilevered Tudor bay that connects the porches. The building has three storeys plus an attic and a basement, with stucco fronts consisting of two bays linked by one-storey porches. The roofs are covered with slate and include gabled dormers and central panelled stacks.

There is an eaves cornice and a blocking course, with plain pilasters above the main cornice and Corinthian pilasters below. The windows have architraves and cornices supported by volute brackets on the ground floor. Notably, there is a large later splayed bay that extends through all storeys to No 148, and a two-storey splayed bay on the left side. The sash windows feature small-pane glazing, except for those at Nos 139, 140, and 147. The side porches are adorned with Ionic columns in antis, and there are panelled doorcases underneath with steps leading up. The rear of the building has long ranges.
