Description

This is a two-storey row of four houses, numbered 5, 6, 7, and 8, situated on The Postern. The houses are raised above street level and set back behind narrow forecourts. They have slate roofs and chimneys positioned in the centre and at the ends of the row. The exterior is cement rendered. Each house has one window bay and an inner doorway. The first floor has two-light casement windows with small panes, while the ground floor windows are 12-pane sash windows in plain reveals. The doors are six-fielded panel doors for numbers 5 and 6, and ledged doors for numbers 7 and 8. A stone retaining wall forms the forecourt boundary, with 19th-century iron railings featuring narrow uprights and standards topped with urn finials. Steps leading up from street level are present at number 5. This building possesses group value from its contribution to the streetscape.
