Description
Ely House, along with Castle House, is a pair of houses located at The Postern. These two-storey buildings feature a basement and have a five-window front with a central entry leading to the rear yard. They are topped with a slate roof. The front wall is constructed from blocks of grey stone laid in regular courses, accented with bathstone architraves. There is a stringcourse at the first-floor level. The first floor has sixteen-pane sash windows, while each end bay on the ground floor contains a large six-pane sash window. The central entrance features a wide semi-elliptical arch with a keystone inscribed "Ely Place," flanked by a flight of steps with railings that lead up to a semi-circular headed door with a plain semi-circular fanlight. In front of the basement windows in the end bays, there are small forecourts bounded by 19th-century railings.
