Description

No 13 (Ely House) & No 14 (Castle House), The Postern Pair of houses. Two storeys and basement, five window front to pair with central entry to rear yard. Slate roof. Front wall faced with blocks of grey stone in regular courses with bathstone architraves. Stringcourse at first floor level. Sixteen-pane sash windows on first floor; in each end bay on ground floor a large 6-pane sash. Central wide semi-elliptical arch with keystone inscribed "Ely Place" , flanked to each side by a flight of steps with railings leading up to a semi-circular headed door with plain semi-circular fanlight. Small forecourts before basement windows in end bays bounded by C19 railings.
