Description
The Wern is a 17th-century farmhouse that stands two storeys high and features a gabled stair tower. It is constructed from local stone and roughcast, topped with a tiled roof that has replaced the original stone roof. The building has stone chimneys at both ends and another chimney offset to the middle. A modern porch has been added to the stair tower. On the right side of the tower, there are camber-headed windows, one on each floor, while on the left side, there are square-headed windows, two on each floor, flanking a doorway. The original small-pane sash windows have been replaced with modern fenestration, although a 4-light timber-frame window remains on the uphill gable end.
Although not accessible during the survey in August 1997, it is reported that the farmhouse retains its early plan form, featuring a post-and-panel partition, ornate door heads, and stone slabs in the dairy. One of the door heads in the screens partition is inscribed with the initials W T.
