Description
Pirgad is a 2-storey farmhouse built from local rubble, featuring a slate roof and stone chimney stacks at each end. It has 12-pane horned sash windows with stone sills and lintels on the ground floor. The arrangement of the windows and door is offset to the left, creating a wider bay on the right side. There is a central panelled door with an overlight.
To the right of the farmhouse is a limewashed rubble byre with a steeper stone-tile roof. This structure has doorways at both ends, a central window, and a larger loft opening above. Further to the right is a likely former stable, also limewashed (though the finish is flaking) and with a slightly steeper stone-tile roof compared to the byre. A small cartshed, added in the 19th century, connects the stable to the byre, featuring a slightly cambered voussoired arch. There is a rough masonry joint between the stable and the cartshed, and the stable has a timber lintel above the doorway and loft opening.
The farmhouse exhibits characteristics from the mid-19th century, while the farm range retains earlier ceilings but was largely inaccessible during the survey in August 1997.
