Description
Pwll-y-hwyaid Farmhouse is a 17th-century building constructed from pink and grey sandstone rubble, which was once lime-washed on the front, and features a Welsh slate roof. The farmhouse has a long single depth range.
The front elevation displays two windows to the left of a modern gabled porch and one window to the right, with three additional windows above, all set very irregularly. These windows are 20th-century wood-framed casements, with some original openings, such as the left-hand window on the ground floor, while others have been altered. There is a ridge stack positioned at the back of the cross-passage and a gable stack to the right.
The rear elevation mirrors the front, featuring a door and four windows on the ground floor. The right-hand window has three 2-pane lights, and the second window from the left uses a blocked cross-passage door. All joinery is also 20th-century, but remains in fairly unaltered openings.
Inside, the porch leads into a cross-passage, which is now blocked by the addition of a toilet at the rear. The room to the right has been modernized, making its original features unrecognizable. To the left, the hall retains chamfered beams with run-out stops and an oak post-and-panel screen, with doorways at either end that are now both modern. The inner room remains unheated. The staircase and upper floor are modern, and the roof features four principal rafter trusses with braces to the collars, while the trenched purlins have been removed and the roof has otherwise been renewed.
