Description
2 The Old Inn consists of two houses that have been joined to form a rough L-shape facing a yard. The buildings are constructed of rubble sandstone painted white, with stone-tile roofs. The upper house, which includes a rebuilt end, is located on the north side next to the main road, while the lower house is positioned at an oblique angle to the southeast.
The upper house, which includes Nos 1 and 2, features original stone stacks to the left and right of the center, along with a 19th-century stack over the left gable end. The original front facing the yard has added lean-tos and has had 1- and 2-light casements inserted on the first floor. The three-window early 19th-century front on the north side facing the road is pebble-dashed. The lower storey contains 12-pane hornless sash windows, while the upper storey has similar 9-pane sashes. A doorway with a boarded door is located to the left of center and is accessed by steps. The east gable end features a corbelled first-floor stack with an added window to its left.
The upper house was not inspected during the survey in September 1997. It is reported to have a fireplace, stairs, and an original gable-end entry, but its original post-and-panel partition was removed when it was converted into a public house. The 19th-century pub fittings have since been removed.
