Description
Penyrhiw is a farmhouse built in 1725, constructed from rubble stone that is partly colourwashed. It features a slate roof with close eaves and stone end stacks, both of which have external chimney breasts, with the right one being particularly large. The building is two stories high and has a three-window arrangement with small windows. The upper floor originally had 9-pane casements, with one surviving on the left, a 4-pane casement in the center, and a missing window on the right that was under repair in 1998. On the ground floor, there are 4-pane sash windows on either side of a plank door, which is topped by large oak lintels. Stone steps lead up to the door. The right end wall features a massive chimney with four steps on the left and two on the right, and a bread oven projects at the angle to the right. There is an added rear lean-to, with the left end being roofless and having a squat stone side-wall chimney.
Inside, the ground floor has five heavy beams, a small fireplace on the left, and a large fireplace on the right, which has a beam dated 'I VII XX V'. The dog-leg stair is likely from the mid-19th century.
