Description
The barn at Little Llwygy Farm is a Grade II listed structure featuring red sandstone rubble gable walls and foundations. The long walls are constructed from oak timber framing, which has been infilled with later boarding, and the roof is covered with corrugated metal sheeting. There are small modern extensions on the left gable and at the rear, both topped with sheeting roofs. The barn has central opposed entrances leading to the threshing floor, with a taking-in door on the gable end, which may be a later alteration.
This five-bay barn showcases timber framed walls supported by jowelled posts, with brackets connecting to the wallplate and ties. The box framed walls are arranged in two tiers and feature wind-braces at the base plate. Inside, there are four queen strut trusses with three tiers of trenched purlins and a ridge piece, all of which are original, made from large scantling, and very well finished. The surviving secondary rafters are also original.
