Description

Llangenny School is a Tudor Gothic style building dating from the 19th century. It features three gabled bays, with the southern bay being lower than the others, and presents a three-window entrance front facing east. The northern bay has a base of coursed rubble, while the other bays are constructed of snecked sandstone with limestone dressings, topped with tile roofs that have crested ridges.

The entrance front includes a central doorway with a Tudor arch, which bears a commemorative engraving to Andrew Doyle of Pendarren, a benefactor of the school. The door is boarded, and above it is a stone slab canopy supported by moulded stone brackets. This canopy is topped with battlements and a cross. At the upper level, there is a three-light mullioned and transomed window in a dressed surround, with an engraved lintel stating 'Rebuilt 1886'. Above this window is a tablet on two corbels that commemorates the original school building from 1847.

An ashlar bellcote houses a single bell within an opening featuring a two-centre head and is topped with a pyramidal roof adorned with three tiers of heavy roll mouldings. The northern bay to the right has a three-light mullioned and transomed window beneath a pronounced relieving arch, along with a tall narrow opening in the gable, also in a dressed surround. The southern bay to the left has a similar gable opening and a three-light window with a hood mould.

The rear of the building has three bays with openings that feature dressed surrounds and relieving arches, as well as mullioned and transomed three-light windows similar to those at the front. The northern bay on the left is longer and projects to align with integral lean-to toilets against the central bay, which has two doorways in the west wall inscribed 'boys' and 'girls'. Above the lean-to, the central bay has a window. The northern wall of the northern bay has a pebble-dashed lean-to on the west side, with an external stack cut down to eaves height.

Inside, there is a single large classroom along with ancillary rooms. The valleys of the roofs are supported by steel girders.
