Description

The outbuilding on the south side of the yard at Cwrt Bryn y Beirdd dates from the late medieval period and features rubble stone construction with roofs made of zinc or asbestos sheet. The southern range retains some of its medieval stonework.

Starting from the right, there is a blocked red sandstone depressed arch; an 1858 view shows that there was originally a pair of arches, with the one on the right possibly hidden by a 19th-century lean-to on the house range. Next is a cement block addition from the 20th century, which has the head of a late 19th-century opening visible above it. The 1858 view indicates there was a moulded square-headed door leading up a flight of semi-circular stone steps at this location. Following this is a 20th-century door topped with a moulded ogee medieval head above the lintel. The 1858 view shows a large pointed window here, with a smaller pointed window to the right.

To the left of the door, there is a straight joint followed by a small window that is not depicted in the 1858 view but features a rough sandstone head and splayed reveals that appear old. This is followed by a 20th-century square window with a medieval ogee head, which is situated above a moulded stone square-headed door that is shown in the 1858 view. Another similar window is located at the extreme left, where a pointed doorway was indicated in the 1858 view.

At the western end of the southern range, there is a very large fireplace with sandstone voussoirs forming the arch. Above this, rough stone voussoirs are present. The fireplace noted at the eastern end in the 1858 plan has since been removed.
