Description
Garn-fawr Farmhouse is a 19th-century building constructed from squared and snecked roughly coursed red sandstone rubble, topped with a stone tile roof. Originally built as two houses, it has since been converted into one. The left side features a central entrance to a two-storey house, with a door that has a segmental head. It has four 3-pane metal casement windows, except for the one to the right of the door, which has six panes. The left window and the door both have arched heads, while the others are topped with stone lintels. There are small gabled half dormers with bargeboards above the upper floor windows, and a stack is located at each end of the ridge. The rear of this section is partially covered by a scullery extension with a catslide roof, and there is a dormer beside it.
To the right of the main house is a single-bay cottage, which has a part-glazed door on the left and a large window below a half dormer similar to those on the main house. There is a gable stack on the right side and a plain window in the gable end. The rear elevation of the cottage is blind, with a small outshut on the ground floor.
The interior of the main house was inspected during a resurvey in June 1997. It features a central entry that leads to a lobby, with two main rooms opening off to the left and right, and the staircase rising directly ahead. The original joinery and fireplaces are present, showcasing chamfering and run-out stops on the door frames. This interior appears to be largely unaltered and reflects the characteristics of a mid-19th-century farmhouse.
