Description
St. Mary's Church is a building constructed from stone rubble with a stone-slate roof and features a weatherboarded and louvred bellcote above the west end. The shaped rafter feet date from the 17th or 18th century. The porch has a segmental arch and is dated 1817. The windows are a mix of square and round-arched designs, which have been reglazed recently. The church has an 18th-century oak plank door.
In the churchyard, there is a cross with a shaft that stands 29 inches high, featuring pairs of V-cut flutings on its faces.
The church's roof consists of three bays and is ceiled above low tiebeams that are bolted on. There is a late 18th-century oak gallery supported by stout chamfered posts, with contemporary stairs and sturdy oak joinery. The font is an octagonal stone piece that tapers and rests on an octagonal and cylindrical base, likely from the medieval period. The pulpit is also octagonal, made of plain oak panels, and has a dated inscription from 1780. Additionally, there are settles, one of which is dated 1783.
