Description
This building, originally a house and now serving as offices, features a stucco exterior. The elevation facing The Bulwark is three storeys high and consists of five bays. The central three bays are slightly set forward and topped with a pediment, flanked by a panelled parapet over the end bays. These end bays are further enhanced by giant Corinthian pilasters on both the first and second floors. A dentil cornice runs along the top, and the windows are horned sash types without glazing bars. The windows on the second and first floors have moulded architraves, while the ground floor is rusticated and includes a central round-headed doorway with a fanlight above it. An iron balcony is present on the first floor.
At the rear, there is a wing connected to No 11 The Bulwark, which has an elevation facing Glamorgan Street. This wing is two storeys tall, pebbledashed, and features a slate roof with a roughcast stack at the northwest end, adjacent to a stack from the 18th century southeast rear wing of the Wellington Hotel. There is also a lean-to addition against the ground floor, dating from the late 19th century or later.
Inside, the hallway boasts an enriched plaster ceiling. A mid-18th century wooden staircase with turned balusters leads to the upper floors, accompanied by wall panelling up to dado level. The ceiling of the stairwell features a contemporary modillion cornice. The windows throughout have fluted architraves and angle blocks with medallions, as well as panelled shutters. The ground floor front room on the left has a modillion cornice, a dado rail, and two elliptically-headed recesses. The ground floor front room on the right includes a 19th-century ceiling rose and an arched recess with Doric pilasters on the rear wall. The grand first-floor room is adorned with a moulded cornice and a deep frieze, along with marble fireplaces.
