Description

The Duke of Wellington Monument features a 2.5 metre high bronze statue set on a stone pedestal with a rusticated base, adorned with bronze bas-reliefs. The statue depicts a standing figure dressed in a frock coat and cloak, with its weight on the right leg and the left leg bent slightly forward. The left hand holds a sword while the right hand holds a scroll. The bronze relief on the southwest side references the Peninsular War, while the northeast panel shows Picton charging the French cavalry at Waterloo. The northwest side of the pedestal is inscribed with "Picton, MDCCCXV," and the southeast side reads "Wellington, MDCCCLII."
