Description
This building, located at 12 Castle Street, is a house with a symmetrical street facade featuring three storeys and three windows, constructed in stucco. It has a slate hipped roof and a moulded wood eaves cornice, along with a plinth. The windows are horned sash types, with square sash windows on the second floor, taller sash windows on the first floor, and wider windows in the end bays on the ground floor. The centre bay on the ground floor includes a round-headed pedimented doorcase with a moulded pediment adorned with dentils and fluted capped pilasters. The doorcase has fielded panelled reveals, a semi-circular fanlight with radiating tracery, and a six-panelled door with four fielded panels.
The rear elevation is pebble-dashed and features a two-window block that projects forward to the left, with small-pane sash windows and a modern porch. There have been some alterations on the ground floor for office use, but the building retains early 19th-century cornices, chimney pieces, and panelled doors. A cantilevered stone staircase with ogee-shaped treads supports a stair with a curved newel, although this is not accessible from the ground floor offices.
