Description
The outhouse or detached kitchen at Coed Farm is a two-storey building dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from red and grey sandstone rubble walls that have been painted, topped with a corrugated sheet metal roof. The building is almost square in shape and features a ground floor door on the front, directly opposite the entry to the cross-passage of the farmhouse. The front is plain above the door, and there is a stone stack on the left gable end, which is partially covered by a later added shed. Access to the upper room is located in this gable. The opposite gable has one window above two, while the rear elevation is unadorned.
Inside, the ground floor retains its original fireplace and copper. The upper room likely served as the cook's accommodation and features a principal rafter truss with raking struts and two tiers of trenched purlins. Although the collar is missing, the secondary rafters are original, and the roof has been recovered above.
