Description
Ty Charles is a two-storey house situated on a downslope. It features stone walls and a thick slate roof, with a square chimney located at the upper (west) end of the building. To the northwest, the roof slope extends over a small block that contains a lobby and an out-room, with a ground floor window to the left of the outer door. The original doorway, located inside the lobby, faces north and has a 17th-century wooden frame with ovolo mouldings. The east gable end has a window on each floor, while the west elevation includes a 19th-century gable with a window on each floor.
Inside, beyond the original doorway, the ground floor has been converted into a single room. It features stop-chamfered beams, with those to the north being of better quality, and some broad floorboards in the ceiling. There is a fireplace with a 19th-century brick bread oven. To the right of the fireplace, there is a stone spiral stair with an original broad-boarded door that opens into a recess; the handrail at the top of the stairs is likely a 19th-century copy. The old roof structure includes principal rafters that have been turned to increase the roof space, and old re-used timbers are present in the window lintels.
