Description
Twll y Car Farmhouse is a small farmhouse dating from the 18th century, accompanied by a cowhouse and stable arranged in a line. The house consists of two units, is two storeys high, and features two windows. It is constructed from local stone and limewashed, topped with a slate roof that has a tile ridge and stone end-chimneys, one of which on the right has collapsed. There are no rainwater goods present. The windows are strongly offset to the left, and there may have been a third ground storey window that has been lost, which is now obscured by a later flat-roofed brick building at the front. The door is located between the windows and is further offset to the left. The sash windows each have four panes and stone sills. In front of the house, there is a small walled forecourt with a cast iron gate set between brick piers with brick copings.
To the right and downhill from the house is a single-storey cowhouse or stable and shed that are aligned with the house. This building is made of rubble masonry and is also whitened, featuring a slate roof with a tile ridge. There is a lean-to roof against the downhill gable end. The section adjacent to the house has two windows with a door offset to the left between them. The wide door is boarded, and the windows have a transom with opening lights above and three panes below. The lower part of this building includes a small window on the left and a boarded door on the right, which has a large gap at the foot.
In front of the house, there is a brick shed, and to the left, a concrete wall supports a lean-to shed. The farmhouse follows a common small farmhouse plan, with a passage leading to the stairs at the rear. The parlour is located on the left, while the kitchen on the right features a cast-iron kitchen range.
