Description
Cilsant is a house built from rubble stone with a stuccoed front, featuring slate close-eaved roofs and large stone end stacks, arranged in an L-plan. The building is two storeys high with a three-window front, which includes 4-pane horned sash windows and a significant 18th-century oak-framed door with eight fielded panels. There is a 20th-century glazed porch added to the entrance. The right end wall is partly stuccoed and has a loft light, while the left end wall and rear wing are painted rubble stone. The rear wing has a small brick end stack and two closely spaced 4-pane sashes on the first floor above a ground floor lean-to that features a 20th-century glazed door. A wing at right angles appears to be from the 20th century but may be a remodelling of an older structure. The original rear wing includes a loft light in the end gable above a large lean-to with concrete tiles and two windows, as well as an outshut at the rear corner of the main house, which has a 4-pane sash above a door in its side wall. The rear wall of the main house is windowless.
The interior has been modernised and consists of two front rooms; the left room has a timber-lintel fireplace, while the right room features heavy beams and joists. The rear wing contains a large fireplace and three large beams, along with a small cellar under the stairs. There is a 19th-century dog-leg staircase. On the first floor, there are three 18th-century five-panel fielded doors and four large beams. The rear wing has blocked stone steps leading to the first floor. The main range has five collar trusses with pegged collars, and the rear wing has three collar trusses supporting a double-purlin roof, with the third truss showing curved principals indicating that the roof has been raised, likely when the front range was constructed.
