Description
The Carmarthenshire Dock tramroad bridge is a well-constructed single-arched stone bridge, believed to date from 1805. The long abutments are straight on the northern side but curve slightly outward at the south-eastern wing, and they are battered on the upstream side. The bridge features a shallow segmental arch, which is now made of red brick, while the bridge itself is constructed from carefully dressed sandstone. On the north elevation, the arch is inset to accommodate weir planks for damming the river, likely to assist with the scouring of the dock. The large copings are level with the bridge deck, which is characteristic of early 19th-century tramroad bridges, being flat and lacking parapets. Unusual iron stanchions bolted to the copings support modern railings.
