Description
The Carmarthenshire Dock east quay is a well-constructed stone quay built around 1799 and altered in 1845 to create a slipway. The quay runs straight from its northern end at the former tramroad bridge and extends approximately 120 meters southwards. Near its southern end, it is crossed by a modern road bridge. The quay is made of coursed rubble sandstone with large sandstone copings and stands about 6 meters high from the current silt level in the Afon Lliedi at its northern end. After a short level section, the quay slopes steeply to form the slipway. Although the quay has been raised above most of the slipway in concrete, the original wall remains clearly visible. It is believed to be connected to a concealed stone dock floor. At the northern end, a set of stone steps descends through the wall and turns at a right angle, projecting parallel to the wall down to the silt level.
