Description
The monument to Mollie Davies at Christ Church is a delicately sculptured limestone structure, approximately 6 feet tall. It depicts Mollie Davies in full Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) uniform, complete with inset brass buttons. Her head is slumped back, with her hair falling loosely, as she appears to be dying in the lap of an angel. The monument features a broad plinth with small blocks topped with pyramids at the corners, and a pedestal. The sculptured base resembles a rocky outcrop. Positioned between Mollie's ATS hat on the left and her limp legs with tiny lace shoes on the right, there is a badly eroded inscription that reads: "To the ... memory of Mollie despatch rider attached 6th Welch Regt. beloved daughter of Handel and ..... Davies of Union/Upton House, Garnant. Died Feb 17th 1940 in her 19th year." At the center of the memorial, there is a small glazed porcelain oval, likely intended for a photograph, which has now faded.
