Description
This is a large, late 19th-century vicarage constructed of coursed blue lias stone, with limestone ashlar dressings and a large slate hipped roof. The building has painted brick ridge stacks on the south, west, and east sides. It is two storeys high, with the main fronts facing south and east. The south front features a limestone ashlar plinth and a roughcast coved eaves cornice with a narrow ashlar string running below. It has a three-window arrangement, featuring eight-pane sashes and a central doorway. The lower windows have flush ashlar cambered heads, while the upper windows are flat-headed. The doorway is set within a large ashlar architrave with moulded cornices, which projects on carved brackets; a flush ashlar cambered relieving arch sits above the cornice. The front door is six-panelled, with two glazed panels and a large overlight.
The east front has four upper windows and three ground floor windows similar to those on the south front, along with a large stone hipped-roofed canted bay to the left, featuring an eight-pane window to the front, and narrower four-pane windows to the sides. The west side is plain and includes a stair-light window. The rear roof has a central valley.
The building is shown on the 1889 Ordnance Survey map.
Inside, the vicarage features a spine hall with a large timber dog-leg staircase located centrally to the left. A panelled room in the southeast of the building contains a small marble fireplace.
