Description
Pilgrim's Graves, located south of the ruins of St Michael's Church, consist of three carved stone grave slabs dating from the late 12th century or early 13th century. These slabs are arranged in a line, with two longer slabs flanking a shorter central slab. The outer slabs feature short, round-headed stones at both the heads and feet. The left slab, which is badly weathered, depicts a figure wearing a knee-length tunic, with the head and foot stones showing a horseman holding a lance. The right slab, also badly weathered, was previously hog-backed and is decorated with a cross running along the length of the ridge, along with cross and cable motifs on the head and foot stones. The central slab is much shorter and depicts a figure in a long skirt, likely indicating a child's grave, although it is partially obscured by undergrowth.
